Dear Dr. Roach:
In our practice, we have been asked to prescribe Finasteride to the patients we see here for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition that may develop in a patient who is experiencing male pattern baldness. Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor, an FDA-approved drug for the treatment of male pattern baldness. We can prescribe Propecia, Proscar and Propecia Propecia to the patients we see here for BPH treatment. Propecia, the brand name for finasteride, has been the first drug to offer this treatment. Propecia is available in a 1 mg tablet and as a 5 mg tablet. Proscar, on the other hand, is a 5 mg tablet and has been available in a 1 mg tablet for over two decades.
What are the benefits of Propecia (Finasteride)?
We are having trouble getting a prescription to buy our 5 mg Finasteride tablets.
Propecia is only available in the USA at a cost of approximately $8, but patients can get a 90 day supply through an online pharmacy. The price is only $5.00.
Proscar (finasteride) is available in the USA at a cost of approximately $5.00.
Propecia is available in the USA at a cost of approximately $0.90. The average retail price for Propecia is $7.95, and the average retail price for Proscar is $7.50.
What are the risks of Propecia (Finasteride)?
The risk of a drug-drug interaction can be serious. The risk of taking more than one drug that will not work for you is greater with Propecia than with Finasteride. It’s also not completely safe to take Propecia if you are also taking other medications, such as certain blood pressure medicines. You also can’t take Propecia if you have kidney problems.
We are aware that the FDA has issued a warning about finasteride and that it is a prescription drug and should only be used by doctors and patients. We do not recommend this drug in the treatment of BPH.
What should I discuss with my patients with Propecia (Finasteride)?
We have a patient who is taking Propecia. She takes Propecia for BPH, and her doctor says she should be able to take Propecia daily, and she is not likely to need it again if she takes Finasteride for BPH.
It’s important to remember that Propecia is only available in the USA at a cost of approximately $8, and it is not approved by the FDA to treat male pattern baldness. However, patients should not take Propecia if they have a condition that can make it hard for them to take the medication. In our practice, it is not recommended for patients to take Finasteride on a daily basis because it may lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of the drug. Additionally, there is a risk of drug interactions with certain medications that can affect blood pressure. Patients who are taking Propecia (finasteride) for BPH should not take it if they have kidney problems.
We also have a patient who has not been taking Propecia for a long time, and a patient who is taking finasteride for BPH. She has had a change in her sexual drive. The patient is taking Propecia for BPH, and she is not likely to need it again if she stops taking the medication. We also need to know if she takes any medications that can interact with Propecia, such as certain blood pressure medicines and diuretics.
As with any medication, you should not stop taking Propecia without talking to your doctor first. Your doctor may recommend that you stop taking Propecia once your condition has improved. They may also recommend that you start the medication at a lower dose and decrease the dose gradually. If you have any questions or concerns about this, talk to your doctor or pharmacist for further information.
